DA Brown honors Peralta

Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown recently honored Assemblymember Jose Peralta as part of National Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring New York State for his dedication, commitment and service to the Latino communities.
“Jose Peralta is truly deserving of the honor that we bestow on him today,” said District Attorney Brown. “As a first-generation Dominican-American, Jose embodies the immigrant spirit that built this great country. The positive contributions that he has made to his community throughout his personal and professional life reflect proudly on his Hispanic heritage.”
Peralta became the first Latino person from Queens to win an Assembly seat when voters elected him in the 2002 election.
During his more than five years in the Assembly, Peralta has touted his contributions to the increase of the minimum wage in New York State, proper funding for home aid programs and senior centers in his district and securing funding for the Doe Fund to supplement the Sanitation Department’s efforts to clean the streets along Roosevelt and 37th Avenues.
Brown presented Peralta the honor at a ceremony at the District Attorney’s Kew Gardens office.
“It was truly an honor to receive an award from someone who is a tireless vanguard type of person who protects the little guy,” Peralta said.
