Queens is host to a vast number of quality gyms (Bally's, New York Sports club, Curves, and Body By Berle to name only a few), so how do you choose the gym that is going to best fit your situation? Are you looking for a facility that has a wide variety of different fitness opportunities like swimming and racquetball, or are you looking for a free weight type facility?Do you need child care? Find out if your child or children are included in the membership fees you are paying. Do you need a personal trainer and does the facility you are considering offer one? Be aware that most facilities offer an introductory session with a trainer as an incentive to join. What are the hours your facility is open? What is the payment plan your facility offers? Can you do a month-to-month or are you locked into the year? Ask if there are any hidden “processing fees” to join and what the cancellation policy is should you not like the gym after joining. Take a tour at the times you would be going to the gym and see the type of people who will be around you. Is there anyone there on staff to help guide you through the use of various equipment or to answer questions you may have?So How's Business in regards to choosing the right gym for the New Year? Don't rush into choosing a gym to show how sincere you are. If you take your time and choose a gym that you like, you will find yourself going there more often and thus meeting those fitness goals you set out to achieve in 2008.Joseph J.
