Two police officers were rushed to the hospital Saturday after their speeding patrol car went airborne and smashed into a light pole, shocked witnesses reported. Rescuers rushed to the corner of West 25th Street and Surf Avenue on the evening of April 5, where the mangled car was found wrapped around the street light. Witnesses told police that the vehicle was traveling up to 80 miles per hour as it answered a 911 call when it hit a bump and went airborne. Both cops were rushed to Lutheran Medical Center where they were listed in stable condition following treatment.
