B&M Auto defeated Benateris Italian Deli, 9-5, for its first win of the year in a Dwarf Giraffe Athletic League Majors division baseball game.
Starting pitcher Tom Tockarshewsky pitched three strong innings and added a solo home run. Also adding to the offense was clutch hitting by Sebastain Mustacchia, Sal DiCamillo and Dean Rodriguez for B&M, which lost a close game to DAC Cincinnati, 9-5. Phillip Tiseo and Vincent Scarimbolo led Benateris offense.
Boys Mites baseball
Shea Truck & Auto 4, Suydam Agency 3. In a very close game Ryan Tarantini pitched five strong innings. Jonathan Downward won the game on a grand slam.
Mattone Group 6, Ars Tavern 3. Mattone Group was led by the exceptional hitting of Nicholas Forgione, who had two hits including a two-run homer and Matthew Recupero, who added two hits. Both teams played solid defense. Anthony Costa contributed a three-run homer for College Point’s Ars Tavern. Ryan Martin and Arthur Decker combined to strike out 17 of the 18 batters they faced.
Mattone Group 4, Patriot Waste 2. In an exciting game, Mattone Group was led by the excellent pitching by Ryan Martin, who pitched a complete game, striking out 16 batters on 71 pitches while giving up only two hits. Arthur Decker came through with a big triple to put Mattone Group ahead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning. Patriot Waste’s Jesse Spellman and Tommy Klein put on a nice pitching performance, as well.
Boys Minor Baseball
JD Opticians 15, DAC 2 Wildcats, 5. Nicholas Gartrelle pitched three strong innings and Peter Giampilis provided two innings of excellent relief in a decisive victory for the JD Opticians.
Bombers 11, Wildcats 3. Adrian Gonzalez pitched four shutout innings and Joshua Yi went 3-for-3 for the Bombers. In a slugfest, the Wildcats defeated Fierce Dragon Martial Arts Academy, 13-12.
Girls Major Softball
Caldwell Music 12, Piccolo Natale 0. Dawn Deiure pitched the entire game for Natale, getting out of a pair of bases loaded jams in the first two innings. Team Caldwell burst out in the third inning with a grand slam by Sabrina Rivera. Sofia Recupero and Sabrina Rivera combined to pitch a great game.
TM&T Tire 4, CCI Construction 2. In a game dominated by pitching and defense, TM&T’s Lisa Ventimiglia and Jessica Piccolino of CCI combined to allow one walk in an errorless game. TM&T’s Sammantha Petrakis caught three line drives and had two put outs at second base. while Harlie Carey, Tressa Belesi, Lauren Ventimiglia and Sammantha Petrakis each drove in a run for TM&T. Jenna Palaozzolo and Kaitlyn Mcgrory each had an RBI for CCI.
FHM Mortgage 4, Piccolo Natale 3. Piccolo Natale jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a run-scoring single by Tara Healy. From there both pitchers were awesome shutting down each others team, until FHM Mortgage scratched out a run in the bottom of the fourth on a bases loaded single by Nicole Pearce.
Piccolo Natale came right back with two in the top of the fifth. FHM then scored three in the sixth to secure the victory. Dawn DeIure was brilliant for Piccolo Natale striking out 13 while scattering seven hits. Tara Healy and Christina Silva were the hitting stars for Piccolo Natale. Taylor Martin picked up the with for FHM Mortgage by striking out 14 and allowing four hits. McKenzie Martin went 4-for-4 and Nicole Pearce drove in two runs for FHM Mortgage.
