Man charged in church vandalism

Daniel Lopez, 34, has been charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree and disorderly conduct, according to the Queens District Attorney, for admittedly “breaking flood lights in the ground of a 9/11 memorial” at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 101-40 91st Street, Ozone Park.
In court papers, an officer of the 102nd Precinct stated that “he observed that other flood lights and an electrical box . . . were also broken” on Sunday, July 20. The officer further stated that Lopez “admitted to him in sum that he caused the . . . damage.”
Lopez, who was arraigned, was ordered held without bail and to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
