We hope Joseph Bruno's decision to resign as state Senate majority leader bodes well for Queens. Despite his good relations with state Sen. Frank Padavan and the state's Democratic governor, Bruno was never a great friend of the city.
He will be replaced by state Sen. Dean Skelos, who represents western Nassau County. The working-class families in his district share many problems, hopes and dreams that define life in Queens.
Skelos' biggest challenge will be restoring democracy to the state government. For decades it has been run from an Albany back room where the governor, Bruno and state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver carved out deals. The other legislators were window dressing.
Hopefully, Skelos will bring real democracy to Albany.
