A pedestrian was dragged 17 miles through Brooklyn and Queens Wednesday morning after being hit by one car and caught underneath a van, police and the Associated Press reported.
The accident occurred around 6 a.m., the AP said. According to a police source, the pedestrian was struck on 108th Street in Corona and dragged into Brooklyn. The first driver struck the person and called 911, but the victim was caught underneath the chassis of a maroon van, the AP said. The driver took the Grand Central Parkway to the Van Wyck Expressway and then went west on the Belt Parkway, winding up in the Coney Island neighborhood where he worked before noticing the body, the AP said.
He stopped once along the way to check the front of the van, but did not notice the body toward the rear undercarriage, the AP said. A pedestrian in Coney Island finally alerted the driver about the corpse 45 minutes after the accident occurred, the AP said.
Police were still combing the route for body parts, but did not suspect any criminality in the case, the AP said. The NYPD had not identified the victim by Wednesday afternoon. An autopsy was planned for Thursday, the AP said.
