Noise a big issue at Precinct Council

Bad guys beware.
Sergeant Roxroy Bucknor, awarded “Cop of the Month” at the most recent meeting of the 106th Precinct Community Council, is on patrol.
Bucknor has gotten the honor at least once before in the last few months.
This time, he came to the aid of an off-duty Port Authority officer who had been carjacked by two suspects.
After shots were fired and a physcial altercation ensued, one of the perps grabbed the officer’s gun.
It was at that pount that Bucknor intervened and made the arrest.
One of the suspects, 19 years old, had been arrested 11 times; the other perp 18, had seven arrests.
“These guys are doing a really good job,”?said Lieutenant Joseph Salvato, who was standing in for Captain Joseph Cortesis.
The room was packed on Wednesday night, June 10, and there were some new faces there for the first time.
Noise seemed to be the agenda of the evening, with complaints ranging from 90th Street and Silver Avenue in Ozone Park to the club on 123rd Street and Liberty Avenue.
“Apparently they have more rights than we do,”?said one resident, who did credit officers of the 106th Precinct with putting a stop to a previous complaint.
In fact, the captain had even sent out letters to those with more than five complaints.
Other issues included ATVs, wrong-way drivers, speeders and loud music on 90th Street in Howard Beach.
“We can’t even walk on the sidewalks,”?said one man who lives in the vicinity.
“It’s that time of the year [for bikes, noise, etc.],”?said Frank Dardani, President of the 106th Precinct Community Council.
One of the problems brought up at last month’s meeting — cars making illegal left turns at 98th Street and Liberty Avenue — has already been addressed, with 21 criminal summonses written.
The issue of day laborers at 88th Street and Liberty Avenue/105th Avenue was also handled, with over 30 criminal summonses.
Before the meeting was over, Salvato had dispatched several officers to check out some of this month’s complaints.
The 106th Precinct Community Council meets the second Wednesday of the month at 8 p.m. at the precinct, 103-51 101st Street in Ozone Park.
