Why did you decide to run for City Council: “I decided to run for City Council mainly because I saw that there was a need for a change in leadership. I feel our community’s condition needs to be enhanced in many areas, and I believe I can do that. Things like a lack of after school activities and deplorable conditions for the senior citizens in our community made me want to get involved in an effort to improve and enhance.”

What are two major issues affecting your community: “What we have right now is developers coming in and building structures on any open plot of land,” said Leandre. “Not only is this giving way to eyesores, but it’s also contributing to lack of parking and other negative changes. All of this is resulting in the deterioration of the quality of life in the district.” Lack of youth programs is also a concern of Leandre’s.

What is the first thing you would focus on if elected: “We have so many competing problems and issues, I wouldn’t necessarily focus heavily on one,” Leandre remarked. “We have to look at these issues as one thing, they’re not isolated. They’re all tied in to each other in one way or another. I plan to combat these issues on all fronts. However, one thing I would look at right away is helping our seniors. People in our community are living longer, and we have to find a way to accommodate them. I would immediately start looking for places do develop senior centers.”
