Senior center gets $50G

 

            Assemblymember Jose Peralta (fourth from right) recently presented a $50,000 check for the Elmhurst-Jackson Heights Senior Center in order to make numerous improvements to the center. Some of the money will be used to replace computers that are nearly 15 years old as well as purchase new chairs, tables, desks and other types of furniture.

            Recent budget cuts have crippled the funding these centers usually receive and have forced them to stay open with just the minimum expenditures. To relieve some of this pressure, Peralta provided $50,000 to the Institute for the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Elderly, the senior center’s umbrella organization
