A St. Albans man already in prison for killing a woman in Virginia in 2006 was sentenced Friday to 33 more years behind bars for shooting a Queens architect and attempting to kill a friend, the Queens district attorney said.
Gary Johnson, 20, formerly of 90-32 80th St., was sentenced to an 18-year prison term for the manslaughter of David Munn of South Jamaica and a 15-year prison term for the attempted murder of Orrie Ennis, Queens DA Richard Brown said.
Johnson, who was 16 at the time of the shootings, is currently serving a federal sentence of life without parole for killing Katherine Danielle Howard, his cousin’s girlfriend, in February 2006, according to the DA.
Howard’s slaying took place six months before Munn’s death and eight months before Ennis’ attempted murder.
“The defendant’s short history clearly shows that he has absolutely no regard for human life. The sentences imposed by the courts ensure that he will no longer be a threat to society,” Brown said in a statement.
On Aug. 31, 2006, Johnson shot Munn, 31, an architect who lived on 120th Avenue in South Jamaica, three to four times in front of a building at 113th Avenue and 155th Street, according to the DA. The convict fatally shot Munn once in the chest and in the arm as the architect turned to run away, Brown said.
Munn allegedly crossed Johnson while the convict was having an argument with his girlfriend, a source said.
Less than two months later, Johnson fired a weapon again, this time at Ennis, according to Brown. The 20-year-old was shot once in the stomach during a robbery that took place following a dice game, the DA said.
Johnson pleaded guilty to the manslaughter and attempted murder charges in Queens Supreme Court in September, according to Brown. In March, he was sentenced for Howard’s murder, the DA said.
