Medal of Honor

It was a proud day at LaGuardia Airport last week, as American Airlines welcomed 31 Medal of Honor recipients aboard its Flagship Liberty charter flight to Washington, D.C.

With their medals on ribbons around their necks, the veterans made their way through a military honor guard, a cluster of balloons, and round-upon-round of applause, to the special yellow-ribbon aircraft that would take them to the nation’s capital.

Ken Pyatt, American Airlines Managing Director for LaGuardia, gave the recipients a warm welcome and bon voyage for their flight to Washington, where they were recognized on National Medal of Honor Day, March 25.

The Medal recipients served in conflicts ranging from World War II to the Vietnam War.

American Airlines and American Eagle operate three special yellow-ribbon aircraft that proudly sport the iconic yellow-ribbon decals and the slogan, “In support of all who serve,” on their fuselages. American has a long history of supporting veterans and military service members. Veterans/Military Initiatives are a strong priority, reflecting American’s commitment to honor the bravery and dedication of those who serve the country.
