The Queens County Democratic Party endorsed Francisco Moya Monday as its preferred candidate to fill the 39th State Assembly District seat.
The post was vacated by state Sen. Jose Peralta (D-Jackson Heights) after he beat Hiram Monserrate, who was expelled from the Senate following his conviction on misdemeanor assault for attacking his then-girlfriend.
“I’m proud to have the endorsement,” Moya said. “I’m looking forward to having a victory we can be proud of.”
The endorsement was not entirely unexpected as Moya held a campaign event last week attended by a number of powerful Democratic elected officials including U.S. Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Jackson Heights), Peralta, Assemblyman Mike DenDekker (D-Jackson Heights) and City Council members Daniel Dromm (D-Jackson Heights) and Julissa Ferreras (D-East Elmhurst).
“I’ve been an insurgent my entire career,” Moya said. “It just goes to show the depth of my candidacy that we’ve been able to coalesce … all the local leaders, and now the Queens Democratic Party.”
Crowley is chairman of the Queens Democratic Party.
