A 27-year-old off-duty police officer was killed Wednesday after he crashed his motorcycle on the Cross Island Parkway at the overpass of the Whitestone Expressway, police said.
Phil Clemens, an off-duty city police officer, died after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into the guardrail, police said. But police would not release the neighborhood where Clemens lived, nor the precinct at which he worked.
The accident occurred just before 10 p.m. in the northbound lane of the Cross Island Parkway at the southbound Whitestone Expressway overpass.
Clemens was pronounced dead at New York Hospital Queens, where he had been transported following the accident, police said.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly issued a reminder Thursday to the city’s police force that officers could take part in a free motorcycle safety course during work hours.
