As a resident of Bayside, I am disgusted by the cameras being placed all over Queens. Studies have proven that they do not reduce accidents — they actually increase rear-end collisions!
What is more, yellow light times are reduced at camera lights, which proves they are only in place to collect extra revenue. We are in the middle of a recession and a $50 fine on a student or the Average Joe is devastating. I have also read that Gov. David Paterson approved speed cameras for the 2010 budget.
I would love it if you could publish a story increasing public awareness on the camera issues. They expand Big Brother — as if he is not already big enough — are a hidden tax on the middle class and are dangerous and increase accidents.
