The city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) has launched a “Group Ride Vehicle Pilot Program” in neighborhoods where transportation options are limited.
In Queens, vehicles will take commuters who used to ride the Q74, which served Queens College and Kew Gardens, and the Q79, which served Little Neck, Glen Oaks, Bellerose and Floral Park.
Under the plan, vehicle operators will pick up passengers at designated spots and then the driver and passenger will agree on a drop off point inside the area. The cost of the ride is $2, and there are no free transfers between commuter vans and mass transit.
Former Q74 – operated by Community Transportation Systems (718-297-0710) and is in service between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on weekends.
Former Q79 – operated by Alpha Van Lines (516-792-6751) and is in service between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekends. – Pete Davis
