False insurance claims made by boro accountant: State

A Forest Hills accountant has been arrested for allegedly filing hundreds of bogus health insurance claims, according to the state Insurance Department.

Diana Rabin, 29, was arrested Sept. 21 after allegedly filing 695 bogus claims with Aetna and UnitedHealthCare in six months beginning in May, according to the department.

She has been charged with grand larceny, insurance fraud and 695 counts each of forgery and possession of a forged instrument, the agency said.

She allegedly stole $115,000 as a result of filing the claims, which the insurers reported after noticing a pattern of repetitive claims, then discovering that the health care providers she allegedly claimed to have visited had never treated her, according to the department.

Investigators from the department’s Frauds Bureau and the office of Queens District Attorney Richard Brown accuse Rabin of filing several apparently legitimate claims, then forging paperwork and other information to file the fraudulent claims, the Insurance Department said.

She allegedly used three out-of-network providers in order to be paid directly; Aetna paid all but 54 of the claims, the department said.

If convicted, Rabin faces up to 15 years in prison.
