Culture honors for Flushing Town Hall

The country’s most culturally diverse county has a “Town Hall” to match this holiday season.

The Flushing Town Hall’s holiday programming earned them the Culture Spot designation for December by NYC & Company, the official marketing and tourism guide for the city.

This “cultural gem” was chosen for the “glimpse into the wonderful cultures from around the world,” said Barbara Lorber of the NYC & Company Foundation.

With the holiday season in full gear, Town Hall has performances for all the season’s holidays, including a Klezmer Hanukkah party, “The Nutcracker” and an all ages Kwanza celebration.

“Flushing Town Hall is delivering the gift of these unique holiday programs, which appeal to all cultures, interests and ages, right to the community’s doorstep,” said Ellen Kodadek, executive and artistic director of the Flushing Council on Culture (FCCA), who manages and programs the hall.

Town Hall, located on Northern Boulevard, is offering a buy-one-get-one-free ticket special in honor of this recognition for all December programs.

Besides the holiday shows this month, there are also many other programs that are running, including The Latin Jazz Coalition and the Korean painting exhibition.

Built in 1882 and opening two years later, the town hall was named an official historic place in 1972. In 1996, the town hall was named to the city’s cultural institutions group, a collection of 34 cultural locations in the five boroughs, including eight in Queens.

NYC & Company’s mission, which began in 1999, is to maximize travel and tourism opportunities in the city, build economic prosperity and spread the dynamic image of the city across the world, according to its web site.

To receive the buy-one-get-one offer, visit Flushing Town Hall’s box office or call 718-463-7700, Ext. 222, or stop by any official NYC information centers in Manhattan. For more information and a program schedule you can visit flushingtownhall.org.
