All public schools open

All New York City public schools will be open today, January 12, according to the Department of Education.
Field trips however, are cancelled and Chancellor Cathie Black will determine whether after-school programs and PSAL events will go on as scheduled later.

However, private schools are another matter. Most private institutions announced school closings due to the snow on their websites.
