BASKETBALL ROUNDUP 01-20

The Benjamin Cardozo Judges improved to 9-0 with a 60-43 win over the Beach Channel Dolphins (3-7). Senior guard Shelton Mickell led the Judges in scoring with 22 points, while senior forward Tyrel Hunt had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Jermaine Lawrence had a double-double as well with 10 points and 13 rebounds and senior Marquis Barnett led the Judges with 17 rebounds. The Dolphins had three players reach double digits in points. Senior Jahvari Josiah led all Dolphin players with 14 points and eight rebounds. Senior Demitrius Pelt had 11 points and Junior Ismail Abdullah had 10 points. Next up for the Judges will be the Thomas Edison Inventors (2-8).

The Inventors won their second game of the season against the Flushing Red Devils (1-9) by a score of 72-54. Senior Kristopher Owens led the Inventors with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Jahvaunn Johnson had a total of 21 points. Next up for the Red Devils will be the Bayside Commodores (7-3).

In their last game, the Commodores beat the Martin Van Buren Vee Bees (4-6) by a score of 60-45. Senior William Dobie led all scorers with 16 points and Uzonna Akazi had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomores Cantrell Barker and Austin Williams had 10 and 12 points respectively. For the Vee Bees, Senior Davante Lewis led the way with 13 points. Senior Tony Wilson had 11 points and led the Vee Bees with eight rebounds.

The High School for Construction Red Hawks (7-3) lost to the Grover Cleveland Tigers (6-4) by a score of 64-60. For the Tigers, senior Achraf Ardouni led all scorers with 23 points. The senior also had 10 rebounds good for the double-double. Senior Lukas Rascius had a double-double of his own with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Ehiavekhan Eromoselle led the Red Hawks with 22 points and eight rebounds and senior John Galimi had a big night as well with 21 points. The loss drops the Red Hawks in to a first place tie with John Adams Spartans.

The Spartans beat the Hillcrest Hawks (2-8) by a score of 52-41. Seniors Joshua Nazario and Shamiek Farrell each had 17 points. Senior Jaytaun Mcmillan had seven points and senior Devante Johnson snagged a team high 15 rebounds. Senior Stewart Rentus snagged 11 rebounds of his own. Next up for the Spartans will be the Franklin K. Lane Campus Knights.
