Flushing House employees were given awards for their remarkable dedication to delivering care and services to their residents.
Flushing House board member Paule Alexander received the Director Emeritus Award for her strong leadership, commitment and dedication to delivering outstanding care and services to older adults.
The 96-year-old Bayside resident served on the board at Flushing House since it was built in 1974. The United Adult Ministries (UAM) board of directors presented Alexander with the award upon her retirement on December 16, holding the title of first vice president. UAM is the parent of Flushing House
Residency director Nancy Rojas was one of 18 to receive the 2010 Employee of Distinction Award by the New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (NYAHSA) for “their extraordinary dedication to serving older adults.”
Rojas considers herself more an advocate for older adults than a salesperson. She builds relationships of trust with prospects and family, listening carefully to find out if Flushing House would be a “good fit” for each older adult.
Her goal is to help older adults remain active and independent for as long as possible. During her nine years as a member of marketing, Rojas was responsible for helping over 500 seniors become residents of Flushing House.
NYAHSA Interim President Daniel Heim attended the ceremony and presented the award to Rojas. Also present was president of Flushing House, Rev. Douglas Kurtz, who earlier this year submitted her name in nomination for the award.
Built in 1974, Flushing House is the largest not-for-profit, independent living retirement residence in New York State. For more information, visit www.flushinghouse.com.
