CORONA — A 47-year-old Corona woman was arrested Saturday on charges of neglecting her dog so much that it was left weak and unable to stand, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said.
The ASPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement agents answered a complaint Feb. 12 about a matted dog at the residence of Ana Herra, the ASPCA said. At the residence the agents discovered a 12- to 15-year-old female mixed breed dog, Julie, who was weak, unable to stand and had a coat covered with matts, the ASPCA said.
Herra relinquished control of the dog and the ASPCA brought her to their Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital, the ASPCA said. Due to Julie’s poor health, she was euthanized a few hours after she was admitted, the ASPCA said.
Herra has been charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty and faces one year in prison and/or a $1,000 fine if convicted, the ASPCA said.
