Johnnies climb in national rankings

Get out of the way, here come the Red Storm.

A week after rejoining the rankings for the first time in over a decade, the St John’s men’s basketball team has made another jump, landing at #15 in this week’s rankings.

The last time the Johnnies were ranked this high was in March of 2000, when they were ranked ninth following their Big East tournament championship.

This leap in the rankings comes after a week where the Johnnies extended their winning streak to six games with wins over DePaul and at #14 Villanova, their first win over a ranked opponent on the road since 2002.

The Red Storm, whose six wins against top 25 teams are tied for most in the nation, are one of eight Big East teams to be ranked – all in the top 20 – solidifying the conferences rep as the best in the country.

St. John’s, a lock to make their first NCAA tournament since 2002, also have a chance to receive a double bye into the quarterfinals of Big East tournament by finishing in the top four in the conference.
