Health and Safety Workshop

The first-ever Health & Safety Workshop at P.S. 207 in Howard Beach on Monday April 11 was “a success,” according to Margaret Finnerty, District 27 District Family Advocate.

The event drew 300 children and parents of District 27; it began as a means for them to get to know the Community Education Council, and grew into an informative evening, with representatives from MediSys, the mayor’s office, and various city agencies.

The Howard Beach Kiwanis Club also did ID kits for the children and free smoke detectors were given out.

Finnerty said that local merchants also donated gifts and prizes, there were free Zumba lessons, and there was entertainment by the children of three local schools – P.S. 63, M.S. 210 and the kindergarten from P.S. 97.

And she thanked local politicians – City Councilmembers Eric Ulrich and Ruben Wills, Assemblymembers Audrey Pheffer and Mike Miller and State Senator Joseph Addabbo – who “were a big help.”
