A local girls’ basketball team received top honors after an amazing end to a stellar – and flawless – season.
Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer awarded the Lady Owls at William C. Bryant High School in Long Island City with a proclamation honoring the team’s 14-0 division record and 20-0 overall record. Head Coach Jimmy Exarhos and Principal Aaron Perez received the award along with the team of hard court champs at a ceremony at Emigrant Savings Bank in downtown Manhattan on April 6.
The girls ran roughshod through the Public School Athletic League (PSAL) season, as top players Diana Radoncic, Morniquie Murphy and Yarmese Jones dominated the competition. All three players averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds per game, with Jones also averaging 10 assists per game. Jones led the entire PSAL in assists.
“If you did not know about Bryant High School before, you will now after this proclamation and superb season,” said the councilmember through a spokesperson.
A perfect season doesn’t happen without a well-rounded team and rounding out the team’s winning lineup is Patricia Badea, Cassandra Candia Caero, Viviane De Souza, Katerina Dimou, Dominique Hyson, Joanna Manoloudas, Jayme Matthews, Briana Ojeda, Brianna Shorter, Samantha Treglia and Polixeni Triantafilopoul.
