We wish incoming Schools Chancellor Dennis M. Walcott – a native of Queens –the best of luck and judgment in his new position.
Quickly granted the necessary waiver by the advisory council in Albany and approved by the State Commissioner of Education on Wednesday evening, April 13, Walcott immediately got down to work by visiting his old high school – Francis Lewis in Fresh Meadows.
His alma mater is the poster child for overcrowded, overburdened city schools.
Walcott met with the parents, educators and students and got an earful.
We have no doubt that Walcott will be the right man at the right time in what appears to be a coming tsunami of trouble in our schools.
We hope he can find answers to the system’s problems and get the gigantic system back on track.
