If you like to go food shopping, then you’ll love to stroll down the spacious aisles of the new Sky Foods Asian food market opening in the Sky View Center in Flushing.
The 36,000 square-foot market will hold its Grand Opening on Saturday July 23. It will feature a mix of Asian and American products, offering hot foods, sushi, and other international cuisine to go along with a spacious fruit and vegetable department.
The seafood department, one of the largest in the area, includes fish tanks, so customers can come in, see what they like and pick it right out of the tank. Sky Foods Project Manager said that these tanks are common in markets in Asia.
“People want to see what they are buying,” he said. “If you see the fish swimming, then that means everything is fresh.”
The Grand opening, according to Wu, will include a celebration of delicious foods, entertainment, special guests, games and prizes for the whole family. And he is excited to see how shoppers utilize the roomy and easily navigable layout.
“We tried to get people more comfortable in the store,” he said. “We want people to come here and enjoy themselves – enjoy their shopping experience.”
Traveling to the market is convenient as well. The Sky View Center is offering free parking in a well-lit, six-level garage that can hold up to 2,400 vehicles. It is also easily accessible by subway, train, or bus.
“The opening of Sky Foods opens a vital new chapter in the retail growth of our community,” Councilmember Peter Koo, District 20, said in a press release. “We know residents will embrace its wide variety of fresh, high-quality and healthful products and appreciate the attention to details such as free parking and longer-open hours.”
The store will be open daily from 8 a.m. – 10:30 p.m., making it useful for everyone, no matter their work schedule. Wu also added that on weekends, Sky Foods will offer demo-cooking tutorials throughout the store, as well as lots of sampling.
“We’re trying to create a better shopping experience for our customers,” he said.
