Fair focuses on where the jobs are — and how to get them

Ann Jawin, founder of the Center for the Women of New York (CWNY), and President Rhoda Plotkin are inviting women to the 24th annual “World of Working Women Conference and Job Fair” on November 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be held at Flushing’s Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel, where the theme this year is “Where Are the Jobs and How Do We Get Them?”
There will be a variety of programs at the conference, including a panel discussion at 9:45 a.m. Panelists include Delyanne Barros, attorney with Outen & Golden LLP, Councilmember Elizabeth Crowley and Darinka Maldonado, director of the Queens Women’s Business Center.
The Center will also host a job fair, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., to provide a forum for women to flex their networking muscles amongst employers, educational service providers and experts on new job markets and research methods.
Workshops like “The Job Search and Getting Back into the Workforce,” “Starting Your Own Business,” and “Wise Up about Your Finances and Free Yourself from Debt,” will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The evening will end with a “Dress for Success” fashion show and raffle drawings.
The CWNY is a non-profit organization that aids women of all backgrounds in the New York metropolitan area. Since its opening in 1987, the Center has offered free services such as a legal clinic, a support group for women in crisis, a job club and introductory job training courses.
