MASPETH — A 43-year-old Maspeth woman was stabbed to death in her apartment Tuesday by a man who cops believe later threw himself in front of a Long Island Rail Road train, police said.
Maureen Biermann was pronounced dead at Wyckoff Hospital in Brooklyn, according to a statement released by the NYPD late Tuesday.
Police identified the suspect as 33-year-old James Peck of Glendale.
Officers had responded at about 6 a.m. to a report of an assault at 56th Street near Arnold Avenue and found Biermann inside with a stab wound to the neck, police said. Outside and to the back of the house, they also found a 22-year-old man with multiple stab wounds in the back, police said.
The New York Post reported the assailant was the woman’s boyfriend and the injured man was the woman’s stepson.
After the attack, the assailant was struck by a westbound train near Fresh Pond Road and Metropolitan Avenue in Middle Village, police said.
The 22-year-old man was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and listed in stable condition, police said.
