Broken Brandy Bottle Leads Police to Robbery Suspect

Cops Follow Fingerprints To Bandit

A bottle of brandy led detectives last Tuesday, Jan. 3 to a Springfield Gardens man suspected of 14 gunpoint robberies in Ozone Park, Eastern Queens and Nassau County.

Officers from the 105th Precinct arrested 31-year-old Gregory Kennedy of Springfield Gardens last Tuesday, Jan. 3 when he was caught speeding in a black Chevrolet Impala.

Kennedy’s fingerprints were found on a half-pint bottle of Paul Masson Grande Amber Brandy at one of the crime scenes; detectives then produced a Wanted poster circu- lated across the 105th Precinct. When officers stopped the car, they recognized him from the poster and took him into custody.

According to police sources, the suspect implicated himself in a series of gunpoint robberies that occurred within the 103rd, 105th, 106th and 113th precincts. In all the cases, the suspect displayed a firearm and took off with cash.

The first in the series took place on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011 at the JFK Inn at 154-10 South Conduit Ave. in Jamaica; the next took place two days later, at a Dunkin’ Donuts located at 234-36 Merrick Blvd. in Rosedale.

On Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, the suspect reportedly robbed a Dunkin’ Donuts on 133-28 Springfield Blvd. in Jamaica as well as the same Merrick Boulevard Dunkin’ Donuts which was robbed in October; the next day, he hit a T-Mobile store located at 251-05 Jamaica Ave. in Bellerose. It was near that T-Mobile where the bottle of brandy was found.

Then on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 the suspect hit a McDonald’s at 221- 12 South Conduit Ave. in Springfield Gardens. On Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2011, he robbed a Metro PCS located at 231-46 Merrick Blvd. in Laurelton.

Two days after that, he returned to the Merrick Boulevard Dunkin’ Donuts and robbed them again.

On Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, the suspect robbed the same Springfield Boulevard Dunkin’ Donuts that was robbed in November; then on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, he hit a T-Mobile store located at 118-02 Liberty Ave. in Ozone Park.

The final robbery in the pattern took place on Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at a T-Mobile store located at 205-20 Jamaica Ave. in Hollis.

Kennedy has been charged with 11 counts of first-degree robbery. He was remanded, and his next court date is on Feb. 1.
