A firefighter was hospitalized with injuries sustained while battling at one-alarm fire at an Elmhurst building last Friday morning, Dec. 30, 2011, it was reported. Fire Department sources said the blaze broke out at around 10:50 a.m. inside the cockloft and top floor of a three-story building in the vicinity of Baxter and Ithaca avenues and spread to an adjoining structure. Responding to the scene (in the order of their arrival) were members of Engine companies 289, 287, 307, 316 and 292; Ladder companies 136, 154, 138 and 163; Squad Co. 288; Rescue 4 and Battalions 46 and 49- under the direction of Division 14-along with the 110th Precicnt and EMS units. The injured firefighter was taken by paramedics to Elmhurst Hospital Center and is making a recovery. No civilians were injured. Two hose lines were used by firefighters to bring the blaze under control, an FDNY source said.
