RFID Codes On Way To 14 Locations
Fourteen Queens Library branches will be converted to RFID (radio-frequency identification) check-in and check-out over the next several months, it was announced.
RFID check-in and check-out is faster and more accurate than the old bar code readers and paves the way for self-service check-in and checkout to be installed at a later date, ac- cording to Queens Library.
All work will be done on weekends. Two locations-Fresh Meadows and Far Rockaway-will be closed for one Saturday each to permit the work to be completed.
The Fresh Meadows branch at 193-20 Horace Harding Expwy. will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 21, while
–SEE RFID ON PG. 62- the Far Rockaway location at 1637 Central Ave. will be shut on Saturday, Jan. 28. Both locations will resume regular business hours on the following Mondays.
Other libraries that will be converted within their regular public service schedules are Glendale, Mitchell-Linden, Richmond Hill, Lefrak City, North Forest Park, South Ozone Park, Queens Village, Astoria, Hollis, Howard Beach, Whitestone and North Hills.
