Hollywood Legend’s Birthday Cake At E-Space Anniversary
The Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC) will celebrate the Entrepreneur Space’s first anniversary on Wednesday, Jan. 25, with an open party at their Long Island City location featuring free food from clients, a festive atmosphere and a collector’s frozen cake from Hollywood superstar Elizabeth Taylor’s 60th birthday party.
As announced, the festivity will include the unveiling of a chocolate cake-roughly four inches in diameter and topped with a sugary violet flower and green leaf-from the pop culture icon’s 60th birthday party, which took place at Disneyland in February 1992 with Barry Manilow as the master of ceremonies. The pastry was frozen soon after the gala and is in excellent condition.
The cake is a donation to the Entrepreneur Space from acclaimed author Jane Scovell, who helped Oscar-winning actress write the book “Elizabeth Takes Off.”
Located at 36-46 37th St. in Long Island City, the Entrepreneur Space officially opened on Jan. 19, 2011. Fast forward one year, and the 12,500-sq.-ft., city-sponsored, foodand business incubator boasts roughly 175 clients.
Many take advantage of the round-the-clock commercial kitchen featuring everything from a walk-in refrigerator to spatulas, while others utilize the workstations and classroom space. Others participate in free business counseling, technical assistance and financial classes.
Food buyers will meet with Entrepreneur Space clients from 4 to 5 p.m. to taste their products and discuss future sales. The general public
–SEE CAKE ON PG. 63- is then invited to take part in the anniversary party at the Entrepreneur Space from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
