Pols Agree: Public Input Is Key to Convention Project

Want CB 10 Involved In Plans

Rep. Bob Turner received a positive response regarding a letter he recently sent to Gov. Andrew Cuomo requesting that Community Board 10 and local stakeholders be involved in planning of the Governor’s proposal to build the nation’s largest convention center at Resorts World New York/Aqueduct Racetrack.

“I sent a letter requesting the Governor ensure that Queens Community Board 10 and local stakeholders are involved in the planning stages of this project. I appreciate Governor Cuomo’s understanding and willingness to consider them during the process. I strongly believe that it would be in the best interest of the project to have those who know the area provide feedback as to what approach would be most beneficial to this massive undertaking,” Turner said.

In his written response to Turner, Cuomo stated, “We share a common goal of fostering a positive economic environment in order to get New Yorkers back to work, and I fully understand and appreciate your concerns for an open and transparent planning process with a key role reserved for the local community board.”

Cuomo concluded by thanking Turner for the “good work that you do” and his eagerness to work together “to increase economic prosperity and opportunities for all New Yorkers.”

Turner added, “I look forward to working with Governor Cuomo on his convention center proposal and all other opportunities to create jobs and boost economic development in New York.”

Recently, Turner wrote to Cuomo about a resident toll discount for constituents living in Broad Channel and the Rockaways who use the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge. Turner later applauded Cuomo when he included the discount in his proposed budget in January.

Board 10 represents the neighborhood of South Ozone Park, where the proposed site will be.
