Opens Fire On Teen In Bushwick

Without saying a word, an unidentified gunman walked up to a 14-year-old boy and shot him in the courtyard of a Bushwick housing complex last Saturday night, Mar. 3, according to police.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds which were not life-threatening, authorities said.

Law enforcement sources said the shooting took place at around 10:30 p.m. last Saturday in the vicinity of Menahan Street between Central and Wilson avenues, the location of the Hope Gardens housing complex.

According to information obtained by police, the victim was walking through a courtyard between the apartment houses on his way home from a party when he was approached by the suspect, described as an African-American male.

Reportedly, the suspect then pulled out a gun and fired at the victim, striking the boy in the shoulder and right hand. After opening fire, police said, the suspect fled from the scene along Wilson Avenue.

Members of the 83rd Precinct responded to the scene along with EMS units. The victim was taken by paramedics to Brookdale University Hospital for treatment.

Various police units canvassed the surrounding area for the suspected gunman, but despite their efforts, no immediate arrests were made.

The case has been presented to the 83rd Precinct Detective Squad for further investigation, police said.
