Corona Shooting Victim Crashes While Fleeing

Dies Later From His Bullet Wounds

Trying to flee in his car after being shot and mortally wounded outside his Corona home was a deadly decision for a 32-year-old man after he crashed his ride at a neighborhood intersection on Sunday, Mar. 25, according to authorities.

Tesfari Davis of 98th Place succumbed to injuries sustained in the shooting a short time later at a local hospital, NYPD sources noted.

Police said that Davis was shot multiple times by unknown gunmen in the neck and leg in front of his residence on 98th Place near 57th Avenue at around 8:20 p.m. Sunday night.

The motive behind the shooting is unknown and remains under investigation, law enforcement sources stated.

Though he was severely wounded, authorities noted, Davis got behind the wheel of a 1997 Acura and fled from the scene. A few minutes later, he reportedly crashed into another vehicle at the corner of Junction Boulevard and the Horace Harding Expressway.

Members of the 110th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Davis was transported by parathank medics to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

No other injuries were reported in connection with the vehicular accident.

As of press time, no arrests have been made. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the 110th Precinct Detective Squad, police said.
