A wake for an MTA employee who was killed in a motorcycle crash near Roy Wilkins park in southeast Queens is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
Services for Simon Peter George will be held at J. Foster Phillips, 179-24 Linden Blvd., from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, and a viewing will take place from 9 a.m. to 10. a.m. Saturday. followed by the funeral at 10 a.m.
A spokesman for the FDNY said the agency responded at 4:51 p.m. Saturday to a call about the crash at 118th Road and Merrick Boulevard. George was initially listed in critical condition, fire officials said. He was then taken to Jamaica Hospital in cardiac arrest and died at the hospital, according to the FDNY.
An eyewitness believes the brakes on George’s motorcycle gave out, resulting in the accident that took down a section of the fence at the park.
Family members, friends and passers-by gathered Wednesday to show their respect at a makeshift memorial outside Roy Wilkins Park.
Fliers and candles were placed on the damaged fence and wall of the park.
One of the fliers read: “It is with deepest regret that we inform you of the death of Simon George who passed away on Saturday after a tragic motorcycle accident. Simon worked for many years as a dedicated employee in various positions, most recently as a TSM agent in the Customer Service department. We will all miss him as a work colleague and a good friend.”
