Honoring Heroes & the Lost of 9/11/01

Muslim merchants of the 37th Road Diversity Plaza in Jackson Heights were joined by City Council Member Daniel Dromm and SUKHI (Social Uplift Knowledge and Hope Initiatives) New York for a candlelight vigil last week in memory of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. As shown in top photo, business owners dimmed their lights for the vigil and placed flowers along the plaza to pay tribute to those who were killed at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and on board United Airlines Flight 93. Members of the city Department of Corrections and the Port Authority Police Department are seen in the bottom photo displaying the flags of New York State and New York City alongside Old Glory during the United Community Civic Association’s Sept. 11 memorial ceremony, held on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at McManus Memorial Park.
