National Campaign to Combat Abuse of Meds

Help Stop A Killer Problem In U.S.

Assemblyman Mike Miller teamed up with the nonprofit drugfree.org to promote the national campaign entitled the Medicine Abuse Project.

The project aims to build awareness of increasing prescription drug abuse in teens. As a result of high levels of prescription drug abuse, drug overdoses have surpassed car crashes as the leading cause of accidental death in teens within the United States, according to Miller.

“The abuse of medicine by teenagers is a growing and dangerous problem that does not get the attention it deserves. In the Assembly we have been working on aggressive prescription monitoring and antidrug abuse legislation to help prevent harm to our young adults. I will continue to do everything in my power to help stop the abuse of medical drugs and raise awareness of the problem,” Miller said.

The campaign will also take part in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Take-Back Program on Saturday, Sept. 29.
