Thousands of people laced up their walking shoes in order to raise funds to help patients fight breast cancer during the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park on Sunday morning, Oct. 21. Sponsored by the American Cancer Society and held during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, teams of walkers representing local community groups, law enforcement, schools and business organizations raised funds for the charity’s treatment and prevention efforts. Most of the participants wore t-shirts or ribbons colored pink, which symbolizes breast cancer awareness. As previously reported, the Queens walk was expected to raise over $300,000 for the American Cancer Society. Among the participating teams were the 106th Precinct (picture 2), St. John’s University (picture 3) the Forest Hills High School Council for Unity (picture 4), NYPD Patrol Borough Queens North (picture 5), the Pink Hearts (picture 6) and the Sole Sisters of Community Board 5 (picture 7).
