A few famous faces will join hundreds of volunteers in the Rockaways during a day of advocacy to aid in the Sandy relief efforts.
Amar’e Stoudemire and John Legend will be on hand to help clean up and distribute much needed goods to those in Far Rockaway effected by the superstorm.
The volunteer day will kick off at 9 a.m. at 2052 Mott Ave, Far Rockaway.
The day was organized by Reshma Saujani and We Care NYC in partnership with Congressmember Gregory Meeks’ office, Councilmember Leroy Comrie, Councilmember Ruben Wills, Councilmember James Sanders, Jr., Google, New York Tech Meetup, I Love My LIFE, Flavorpill, Pencils of Promise, Russel Simmons and additional non-profit organizations, small businesses, and advocates in New York.
Uber is sponsoring free transportation between Manhattan (37 West 28th Street) and the volunteer site at 8 a.m.
Items needed for the donation include: equipment (flashlights, batteries, battery-powered radios), new cold-weather clothing, kids supplies (notebooks, school supplies, toys, etc.), household supplies (paper towels, hand sanitizer, soap, household cleaning products, diapers, etc.) and non-perishable food.
