The Powerball jackpot has reached $500 million after lottery officials increased the winnings because of vigorous ticket sales, the AP reported.
Before the boost, the lottery was at $425 million after almost two months without a winner.
It’s the second highest jackpot in history after a $656 Mega Millions prize that was awarded in March, said the AP.
Both lotteries are played in 42 states (including New York), Washington D.C. and the US Virgin Islands.
According to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs Powerball and Mega Millions, the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 175,223,510.
Tickets are $2 each and will be on sale until 9 p.m. EST on Wednesday, November 28, the night of the $500 million drawing.
