Former College Point resident Patrick Guidice, who also went by the name Pasquale, died Nov. 15 in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was 94.
Guidice was born in Brooklyn Jan. 30, 1918, to Angelina and Nicholas Guidice. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served in World War II as an anti-aircraft gunner aboard the Queen Mary troop ship. He also participated in the Battle of the Coral Sea and was decorated for his service.
Following his discharge, he joined the city Sanitation Department as a foreman and after retirement worked as a machinist for the Edward Fields Co. in Flushing.
Guidice loved music and played several instruments in a local band in New York City. He was also an award-winning ballroom dancer. As a young man, he played minor league baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
He was an active member for more than 12 years at the Hanac Angelo Petromelis College Point Senior Center, and recently resided at the Heritage Woods Senior Living Community in Winston-Salem.
He is survived by his two daughters, four grandchildren, sister and many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial was held at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Winston-Salem Nov. 19. A memorial mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, at 14-51 143rd St. in Whitestone, Dec. 15 at 9 a.m. Internment will follow at Mount St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Flushing
