Submit Tips, Get Statistics And Breaking News
The NYPD has recently launched an official application for the iPhone, it was announced.
The application is known as charge. It provides its users with interface “NYPD” and available free of icons for a variety of infor- mation offered by the department.
The app includes programs to view wanted posters, submit tips, watch crime videos, learn breaking news, reach the NYPD Facebook page, view Inside NYPD videos, receive crime statistics, find precinct boundaries and join the NYPD.
The NYPD is exploring methods to expand the availability and collection of information to assist in its crime-fighting efforts.
The department invites all with iPhones or iPads to download the application through the Apple store so they can begin to receive the benefits it has to offer.
According to the NYPD, since the application launched Dec. 30, it may not be easily found within the iTunes store. The NYPD also received feedback from the public with regards to Android availability.
The direct link to the actual application is available at https://goo.gl/YQGXM (shortened) and https://itunes.apple.com/us/app /nypd/id587943117?mt=8 (full link).
Android availability is expected by March. As of now, there is no planned Windows Phone development.
The app was designed for the iPhone only, so if a user specifically searches for NYPD as an iPad application, it will not show in the search. They need to search “iPhone & iPad applications.” The app will run on the iPad, but in compatibility mode. There is a planned update to make this an iPad native application, and that is due out in approximately four weeks.
