Armed Crooks Take Coin In Local Heists
Masked gunmen swiped bundles of cash from laundromats in Ridgewood and Woodhaven in two separate heists last Thursday, Jan. 31, and Monday, Feb. 4, respectively, according to police.
As of press time, law enforcement sources have yet to determine if the two robberies were linked.
Regarding the Ridgewood caper, police said the holdup occurred at around 4:40 a.m. last Thursday morning at a laundromat located at the corner of Wyckoff Avenue and Norman Street.
Law enforcement sources said the bandit-described as a Hispanic male wearing a mask-displayed a hand- gun and demanded cash. After being provided with an undisclosed sum of money, authorities said, he fled from the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
Members of the 104th Precinct responded to the scene; there were no reported injuries.
Various police units canvassed the surrounding area for the suspect, but no arrests were made despite their ef- forts, law enforcement sources said.
As for the Woodhaven stickup, police sources said it took place at around 10:50 p.m. Monday night at a laundromat located off the corner of Atlantic Avenue and 88th Street.
Reportedly, the bandit-who was described as a black male wearing a ski mask-walked into the establishment and displayed a silver firearm. Authorities said the crook walked behind the counter, removed $90 in cash, and then fled from the store in an unknown direction.
Officers from the 102nd Precinct responded to the scene. Neither customers nor employees were reportedly injured.
The Ridgewood robbery is being investigated by the 104th Precinct Detective Squad, while the Woodhaven holdup is being probed by the 102nd Precinct Detective Squad, police said.
