By Karen Frantz

An MTA worker died on the job early Wednesday morning when he was struck by an E train entering the 46th Street station in Astoria.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority released a statement saying an investigation into the death of the signal maintainer was underway and the city Transit Office of System Safety would conduct a formal board of inquiry of the incident.

The death marked the first time an MTA transit worker had died on the job since 2010.
