Officials break ground on South Jamaica court overhaul

Elected officials and community leaders broke ground recently on renovations at the basketball courts within the South Jamaica Houses. In total, $350,000 was secured by Councilman Ruben Wills and the New York City Housing Authority for basketball courts with new fiber glass back boards, bleachers and lighting, The renovation is expected to be completed in summer 2013. The event also featured a pickup game between politicians, community activists and 16-year-old Anthony Woods, who was selected by U.S. Rep. Congressman Gregory Meeks as a substitute.
