Open Soccer Day In Midville

Kids from Queens were invited to try their hands, or more accurately their feet, at soccer. The annual invite drew more than 300 kids to kick a ball around in the park. Any interested child is invited back this Saturday, Apr. 27, at 3:30 pm for the last week of free soccer clinics.

These youngsters enjoyed kicking the ball around at Juniper Valley Park during BW Gottschee’s open soccer day last Saturday, Apr. 20. BW Gottschee held the third of its fourth Open Soccer Days last Saturday, Apr. 20, at Juniper Valley Park.

While the little ones kicked the ball at Juniper, BW Gottschee teams played their competitive games. Here are the results:

BWG U9 Royal played a very competitive Chelsea Piers team. Gottschee got on the score board first with a goal by Pascal. After going down 2-1 at the half, Pascal and Matthew scored, putting the Royals up 3-2 at the final whistle.

The 2001 Pre-Academy team continued its undefeated spring season in the Northeast Pre-Academy League by defeating Connecticut’s Oakwood Soccer Club 3-1. Jonathan Ford had two goals, and Matthew Rubinstein scored a third. Goalie Justin Silva made two difficult stops in the early going that changed the momentum of the game.

The 2000 Pre-Academy won two games in the Northeast Pre-Academy League by identical scores. On Apr. 20, they beat South Central 5-1; goals were scored by Eldin Lekperic, Gerard Rodman (2), Petr Mazanek, and Diego Moran. On Apr. 21, they beat Oakwood 5-1; goals were scored by Eldin Lekperic, Petr Mazanek (2), and Sean Molloy (2).

BWG U17 Blue lost to Kosmos 4-3. Saves from Kosmos’ goalie denied the team’s chance to tie the game. Byron Huerta, Carlos Rebelo and Eric Alerte scored for Gottschee.

BWG U18 Blue qualified for the state cup quarterfinal, beating the Massapequa Vipers 2-1. Shawn Bonilla and Raul Figueroa each put one in the net. In the next round, they will face the Westchester Flames. On Apr. 21, the team won its game against North Bellport Blasters 3-0. Chris Morales, Kevin Diaz and Oladipupo Morafa all scored.

U16 Academy team is continued its quest for the United States NortheastAcademy playoffs by beating FC Westchester 2-1 with tallies by Samuel Carter and Joseph Escamilla. U16’s leading scorer is Akeem Morris, who has 10 goals this season.

U18 Academy tied FC Westchester 1-1, leaving them in position to clinch the playoff spot. Alhoussain Bah scored his ninth goal of the season. The team is in the fourth place behind the Red Bulls, New England Revolution and Albertson.
