Queens residents will get a chance to hear from and respond to Borough President hopefuls at the candidate’s forum held at St. John’s University 80-00 Utopia Parkway on the fourth flood of the D’Angelo Center at 8:30 a.m., Apr. 12
The event is being put on by the Queens Chamber of Commerce and will be moderated by Rocco Vertuccio of NY1.
Confirmed candidates (in alphabetical order) are: Tony Avella, Leroy Comrie, Barry Grodenchik, Melinda Katz, Jose Peralta and Peter Vallone Jr.

Nat. Women’s Org. Backs Peralta
Jose Peralta’s bid to become Queens borough president was endorsed today by the political action committee of the Brooklyn-Queens chapter of NOW, the National Organization for Women.
“We are extremely proud to endorse Jose Peralta for Queens Borough President,” said Shirley Ranz, Brooklyn-Queens NOW PAC President. “Like NOW, Jose believes unequivocally in a women’s right to choose, in equal pay and equal treatment, in the fundamental human right to marry the person you love, in science over fear, and in basic civil rights and human dignity. He has been a tireless advocate for these principals throughout his career and we believe there is no better candidate to continue the fight for fairness and equality in Queens and throughout New York.”
“I am honored to receive the support of the Brooklyn-Queens NOW PAC,” said Peralta. “As a State Senator and Assemblymember, I have worked hard to promote the rights of women. I have fought for shelter services and permanent housing for survivors of domestic violence, worked to put sex traffickers out of business and raise awareness of the horrors of human trafficking. I have worked to pass the Reproductive Health and Marriage Equality Acts and sponsored legislation to take guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, as well as legislation to provide greater opportunities for minority and women owned businesses. As Borough President, I will keep fighting sex discrimination in all its forms and continue to battle the scourge of violence against women.”
Peralta’s candidacy has also been endorsed by SEIU Local 32BJ, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., State Senator Adriano Espaillat, Assemblymember Karim Camara, and clergy of various faiths.
