Police are trying to identify a black man in his 40s or 50s who was found dead under a parked van in Astoria Monday afternoon, the NYPD said.

At about 4 p.m., emergency personnel responded to an address near the corner of 30th Avenue and 42nd Street, where they discovered the man lying partially under the vehicle in a front yard, police said.

The man was then taken to Mount Sinai Queens hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.

A woman who lives in the building and asked to be identified as Pat said she arrived home at about 8 p.m. to find investigators questioning neighbors and passers-by to see if anyone knew the man.

“Nobody in the building knew him. No one on the block knew him,” she said, explaining that police showed a photo of the man to try to determine his identity.

Pat was told that the man was wearing a jacket and dress shirt.

“It was like he was dressed up and took off his shoes to take a nap,” she said.

Police said there were no apparent injuries and the city’s medical examiner would determine the man’s cause of death.
